Compliance Care is the first package of the International Education Professional Certificate. Compliance Care will support you with creating and following policies and regulations that raise the profile of your institution internationally and protect your institution against the risks specific to international education.
There are three modules in the Compliance Care package:

About Compliance Management
Proficiency in Compliance Management for an international educator is about being able to interpret, apply, control, and lead activities and practices that ensure alignment and agreement with policies, laws, and standards.
At the end of this Compliance Management module, you will be able to:
- Articulate what compliance means in the context of international education and explain its significance in ensuring the institution’s safety and success.
- Identify the steps to analyzing regulatory changes and apply strategies to ensure adherence to these changes within international education settings.
- Evaluate the importance of stakeholder engagement in compliance and identify effective methods to involve stakeholders in compliance processes.
- Understand how to create comprehensive policies for compliance with stakeholder input and implement these policies effectively within your institution.

Meet Your Compliance Management Guide
Sheila Schulte is your Compliance Management guide. Sheila is the Associate Vice President for International Programs at the University of North Georgia. Prior to joining the University of North Georgia in June, 2018, Sheila worked for NAFSA where her portfolio included education abroad, international enrollment management, international student and scholar services, regional affairs and training. Previously, Sheila worked as a campus-based international education professional at Georgia Tech, Emory University and the University of Idaho. Her passions, which bridge both her personal and professional life, include intercultural communication, literacy issues, anthropology and travel. She has a B.A. and an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Iowa.
About Risk Assessment & Crisis Management
Proficiency in Risk Assessment & Crisis Management for an international educator is about being able to employ best practices and training to protect and minimize risk to people, property, and reputation, and respond effectively when crises occur internationally.
At the end of this Business Acumen module, you will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate potential risks associated with international travel and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Articulate how you can stay informed about global events and potential risks to ensure timely and accurate risk management.
- Recognize key stakeholders in risk management and collaborate effectively to enhance risk mitigation processes.
- Describe how to create, implement, and evaluate comprehensive crisis management plans to handle emergencies effectively.
- Identify efficient communication channels during crises to ensure accurate and timely information flow.

Meet your Risk Assessment & Crisis Management Guide
Andrea Drake is your Risk Assessment & Crisis Management guide. Andrea is the Director of International Health, Safety, and Security at University of Massachusetts Amherst. As the director of international health, safety, and security, Andrea is responsible for developing systems to support students, staff, and faculty traveling abroad as well as the implementation of comprehensive international travel safety policies and strategies for campus. Andrea earned a dual BA degree from Northeastern University in international affairs and languages, literature, and cultures with a minor in Middle East Studies. She earned her master's in higher education administration from UMass Amherst. She holds a leadership position in Pulse, a national network of international health, safety, and security professionals in higher education. Andrea also served as the president of the Massachusetts Council for International Education (MaCIE).
About Recruitment, Enrollment & Advising
Proficiency in Recruitment, Enrollment & Advising for an international educator is about being able to attract, invite, and guide students, scholars, and other audiences to support their development, progress, and success.
At the end of this Recruitment, Enrollment & Advising module, you will be able to:
- Articulate the importance of applying an ethical, comprehensive, multi-tier recruitment strategy considering the entire student life cycle.
- Adapt recruitment and enrollment strategies to address global challenges and leverage opportunities for institutional growth.

- Articulate the importance of aligning recruitment, enrollment, and retention strategies with institutional mission and goals.

Meet your Risk Assessment & Crisis Management Guide
Stavroula Boutsis has worked in Admissions and Student Recruitment since 2000 and currently serves as Manager of Saudi Graduate Recruitment and Development at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia. Prior to assuming her role with KAUST, Stav served as Dean of International Admissions & Recruitment for Enrollment Management at Hofstra University where she oversaw undergraduate admissions, graduate admissions and recruitment, and university partnerships. Stav has previously served as Assistant Director of International Undergraduate Admissions at Stony Brook University where she established the University’s International Admissions office and oversaw all international undergraduate operations. Stav has held positions with the Council of International Schools and Study New York Consortium, and she’s a co-author of NAFSA’s guide to International Student Recruitment (third edition). She grew up in Queens, NY, she’s a graduate of Stony Brook University, speaks Greek fluently, and has been living in Saudi Arabia for over 7 years.
