Wilbur Chen, MD
Wilbur Chen, MD is an adult infectious disease physician-scientist with a specific interest in developing vaccines of global health importance. He is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), director of the UMB (University of Maryland, Baltimore) Travel Medicine Practice, and chief of the adult clinical studies section within the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD), an organized research center within UMSOM.
His research is concentrated on two major areas of global health importance: developing vaccines for enteric pathogens (chiefly infectious diseases causing diarrhea in in developing countries), and improved vaccines for older adults (a rapidly growing segment of the global population which is susceptible to many infections and a special population that generally responds poorly to existing vaccines). Chen is an ardent supporter of all things promoting global health. He is a member of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s COVID-19 Task Force.
