Miko McFarland

Miko McFarland (she/her), Director of University Relations, oversees US institutional partnerships and strategy for Barcelona Study Abroad Experience. Based in Kentucky, McFarland completed a bachelor of arts in anthropology and Master of International Affairs & Administration at Missouri State University. Not only was Miko the first in her family to study abroad, she was also the first to complete her college degree. 

McFarland served as Missouri State University’s Study Away Advisor for four years and received the NAFSA Region IV Outstanding New Professional Award in 2011. She then transitioned to a leadership role at the University of Kentucky and served as their Executive Director of Education Abroad & Exchanges for six years. 

McFarland plays an active role in international education, having maintained an active presence on regional, national, and international advisory boards throughout her career. She is a member of NAFSA Trainer Corps, a NAFSA Academy alum, and contributing author to multiple publications for NAFSA and The Forum on Education Abroad. McFarland regularly presents sessions that promote best practices in education abroad leadership, program development, financial management and international risk management. 

Miko is the 2024 awardee of the EAKC Lily von Klemperer Award.
