Michele Stelljes
Michele Stelljes retired from The Houston Methodist Hospital and Research Institute in 2023 after a career in academic and HR immigration service there and in the Texas Medical Center colleges and universities for 33 years. Michele was a NAFSA member-leader throughout her career. Member of Trainer Corps she has been recognized for her passion for academic physician and researcher advising and training. Michele designed, co-authored, and led professional development workshops for graduate medical education and physician immigration. She is Co-founder of the NAFSA Member Healthcare Institution Interest group. She served in local, regional, and national leadership roles including Chair of the Houston Forum of International Educators, Chair of NAFSA Region III, Regulatory Representative, Employment based subcommittee, National Development Committee and founding member of the bi-partisan NAFSA Christian Special Interest Group. She is a member of New Century Circle. Since retirement, Michele has volunteered with Second Servings Houston, a non-profit organization rescuing healthy prepared and perishable food for populations facing food insecurity; Amazing Place, day program and support organization for persons impacted by Dementia and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Michele has received various regional awards including Region III’s Outstanding Service to International Education, and Region III Lifetime Membership Award.
