Louis Deemer
Louis is an Immigration Specialist at the University of Pittsburgh's Office of International Services. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a master’s degree in Higher Education Management both from the University of Pittsburgh. Louis received the Department of Education’s Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship for Mandarin Chinese and studied abroad both in China and India.
Before joining the team at OIS in 2020, Louis taught middle school English with Americorps in Denver, Colorado and worked at colleges and universities in Ohio and Pittsburgh in orientation, success coaching, and collegiate basic needs support. Outside of student immigration advising, Louis is also a NAFSA Region VIII Rainbow SIG representative and co-presented a session at the NAFSA Region VIII conference in Fall 2023. He teaches a First Year Programs course to incoming first year students at Pitt and is a member of Pitt's Transgender Working Group and Pitt Queer Professionals.
