Katherine S. Hammett

Katherine S. Hammett has more than 30 years in U.S. higher education, having held international education positions within student development and academic affairs at a number of institutions. She currently serves as senior director of the Center for Global Engagement at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Hammett began her volunteer leadership with NAFSA in Region VI and has held a number of regional and association-wide positions, including chair of Region VI, regional council coordinator, and International Education Leadership representative to the Annual Conference Committee. She served as chair of NAFSA's 2020 Annual Conference & Expo and most recently served as a member of the NAFSA International Education Professional Competencies Commission. Having learned from many mentors in the field over the years, she now enjoys opportunities to mentor others. In 2000, she received an International Education Administrators Fulbright Award to Japan, and in 2007, she was selected to travel to Myanmar and Thailand as part of the U.S. Department of State Advisor's Professional Partnership Program. She has a BA in international studies and an MS in college student personnel services, both from Miami University in Ohio. In 2021 Katherine was recognized with the NAFSA Award for Distinguished Service to NAFSA, in honor of Marita Houlihan and Homer Higbee. This award honors a current NAFSA member who has shown leadership in associational activities or sustained stewardship of the field. The award honors imagination, personal enterprise or creative contributions to professional development through leadership, mentorship, program development, training, writing, or research.
