Jonathan Carmona Marrero
Jonathan Carmona Marrero (he/him/his) is currently in his sixth year of professional work in International Education. He serves as the Assistant Director for International Engagement in the Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) at George Mason University. In this role, Jonathan oversees the development of educational, sociocultural, and professional development programs that aim to facilitate the sense of belonging and success of international students from 130+ countries. He also coordinates arrival services for new international students, manages international student orientation, and oversees OIPS participation in major university programs and events, including International Education Week, International Week, and other signature events in collaboration with multiple academic and non-academic units at George Mason University. Jonathan has previously worked as an International Transcript Evaluator in International Admissions and Enrollment Services with INTO University Partnership. He also has experience in Spanish translation at the federal level and has studied abroad in Havana, Cuba. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Jonathan is a proud Afro-Latino. As a two - time alumnus of George Mason University, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Global Affairs with a concentration in Media, Communication, and Culture. Additionally, he earned a Master of Arts in Global Affairs with a specialization in Global Education. Jonathan is also a Hermano of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Fraternity, Inc. Outside of his professional and academic life, he enjoys traveling, watching movies, listening to music, playing volleyball and is a big fan of professional wrestling.
