Carola Smith

Carola Smith serves as dean of educational programs at Santa Barbara City College. She currently also serves as chair of the institution's Professional Development Advisory Committee and as co-chair of the International Education Advisory Committee. In her current role, she provides oversight for SBCC’s incoming and outgoing International Programs and the Business Division. Ms. Smith has been actively engaged with NAFSA for the past 20 years and frequently presents both at regional and national NAFSA conferences as well as at other international education conferences. She came to the U.S. as an international student and earned her bachelor's and master's degree as well as her teaching certificate in English as a Second Language from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has lived and traveled abroad extensively and considers herself as a product of international education. Ms. Smith has served in a variety of leadership roles within the NAFSA Academy, including two terms as chair of the Academy. She enjoys sharing her passion for international education with other professionals in the field and looks forward to serving as a trainer in the MDP Program.
