Allegra Laing

With a career spanning 19 years in international education, Allegra Laing has championed equity and inclusion for underserved communities within a diverse array of institutional contexts. An alumna of Spelman College and the SIT Graduate Institute, she began her career under the mentorship of Dr. Margery Ganz and Angela Guinyard at her alma mater as a graduate intern. Currently, she is the Associate Director for Global Diversity and Inclusion at Elon University. In her role, Allegra serves as the chief strategist for leading the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center in integrating inclusive excellence into all aspects of education abroad programming. Previously, Allegra served as the Study Abroad Coordinator at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and as an Education Abroad Advisor at Washington State University.  

Allegra has held leadership positions at the state and regional levels in international education. As the HBCU-MSI representative for NAFSA Region VII, she chaired the inaugural HBCU Forum: Building Our Legacy - Expanding Global Engagement at HBCUs for the 2016 Regions III & VII Bi-regional Conference. From 2017 to 2018, she served as the chair of the North Carolina Association of International Educators and served as the 2020 chair of NAFSA Region VII.
