Position: Trends & Insights (T&I) Author
Term Dates: 4–5 month writing assignment
Trends & Insights (T&Is) are written by respected and emerging leaders in the field of international education and from our extended community.
These brief articles (1,500–2,000 words) highlight social, economic, political, and higher education system trends affecting international higher education. T&Is are not traditional academic pieces with heavy citations, and instead involve more reflection, opinion, and thought leadership for the global international education community. NAFSA encourages the submission of articles for its consideration to publish.

Major Functions and Responsibilities
This position will:
- Submit an initial idea for consideration as in an upcoming T&I issue.
- Respond to constructive feedback from the Editor in a timely manner and according to the requested timeline in order to revise and refine the submission for publication.
- Provide accurate citation information within the submission for all sources using Chicago style.
- Confirm that the submission is an original work of the author and not under consideration for another publication.
- Actively communicate with the Editor regarding the status of submission.
Commitment
- Confirm for a specific project-defined commitment designated by the lifecycle of a single T&I issue.
- Communicate with the Editor regarding the status of the submission and any questions that may arise.
- Dedicate 4-6 hours to write and revise submission, depending on length, familiarity with content, and feedback received.
- Foster an inclusive environment in alignment with the NAFSA Diversity and Inclusion Statement.
Qualifications
- Interest and knowledge of ongoing professional and scholarly conversations in the field of international education.
- Ability to reflect on the current state of international higher education, identify the needs of international education professionals, and provide insights for individuals and higher education institutions to advance the field.
- Commitment to access and respond to e-mail in a timely fashion.
- Previous author or review experience preferred (e.g., author/peer reviewer for journal articles, conference submissions, etc.).
- Current NAFSA member preferred.
