Committee on Immigration Policy and Practice (CIPP)
The Committee on Immigration Policy and Practice (CIPP) is a standing committee within NAFSA that concerns itself with immigration regulations and their interpretation for the benefit of international students and scholars. CIPP representatives in NAFSA liaise with DHS staff (USCIS, USCBP, and USICE), act as a clearinghouse for immigration information, and facilitate the dissemination of regulatory notices and updates.
In keeping with the aloha spirit, Hawaii/Pacific CIPP district representatives have fostered a close relationship with "legacy INS" and current DHS personnel. For many years a unique feature of the CIPP DR function in the Hawaii/Pacific District has been hosting monthly meetings attended by INS/DHS personnel and school representatives. These gatherings have allowed a mutually supportive relationship to be established between international education specialists in the public/private sector and INS/DHS in order for both sides to gain insights into immigration regulations and their correct interpretation.
Meetings are often conducted via video conference platforms such as BlueJeans or Go To Meeting. Please contact the current CIPP rep for information on the meeting format and connection details.
The 2019 CIPP meeting dates are:
- February 7, 2019, 1:30pm - 3:00pm (video conference)
- March 7, 2019, 1:30pm - 3:00pm (video conference)
