Region VI is now accepting applications for several travel grants. Submit your application here before deadline on October 4th, 2024 to be considered!
Advocacy Day Travel Grant
Region VI is pleased to award up to nine individual registrational grants (three per state) for the 2024 NAFSA Advocacy Day, taking place March 13th, 2024. These grants will be issued as refunds at a later date. To be eligible, recipients must first register for Advocacy Day by the event registration deadline, December 15th, 2023 at https://www.nafsa.org/events/nafsa-advocacy-day. Please be sure you and/or your institution are prepared for the financial commitment at the time of Advocacy Day registration, in case you are not a grant recipient.

State Meeting Travel Grant
Every year, each state within Region VI will award three $100 grants to help cover costs associated with attending NAFSA state meetings. Please contact your state representative for more information.

Newcomers Regional Conference Grant
Available to newcomers, professionals, and community volunteers in all areas of international education who wish to attend a NAFSA Region VI conference. Free conference registration will be awarded to grant recipients
To be eligible to apply, individuals must be:
- A first-time recipient of a Regional Conference Travel Grant
- A first-time attendee at a regional conference
- A U.S.-based paid professional staff, U.S.-based unpaid volunteer staff, or an undergraduate/graduate student at a U.S. postsecondary institution present at a NAFSA regional conference
Award preference will be given to applicants residing or working in Region VI.

Regional CEP Workshop Grant
Available to professionals and community volunteers in all areas of international education who wish to attend a Core Education Program (CEP) workshop at the Region VI Conference. Grants of $100 will be awarded to offset CEP workshop costs.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must:
- Be employed full or part-time at a U.S.-based postsecondary institution or organization or be a volunteer with a community organization providing services to international students
- Register for and attend a CEP workshop held in conjunction with the annual regional conference
Applications will be reviewed by members of the Region VI Team. Travel grants will be assessed on their stated goals for professional and personal growth in international education, and demonstrated financial need. Due to the large number of applications expected and the limited number of grants, it is unlikely that more than one applicant from the same institution will receive funding. Preference given to NAFSA members.

Experienced Professional Regional Conference Grant
Available to professionals and community volunteers in all areas of international education who wish to attend a NAFSA Region VI conference. Preference given to applicants who have also submitted conference session proposals for the same regional conference. Free conference registration will be awarded to grant recipients.
To be eligible, individuals must
- Be a member of NAFSA
- Be employed full- or part-time at a U.S.-based postsecondary institution or organization in Region VI
- Have more than five years of experience in advising students and/or administering programs in international education
Volunteers with community organizations providing services to international students are also eligible but must meet NAFSA membership and experience requirements as listed above. Award preference will be given to applicants residing or working in Region VI.

Student Presenter Regional Grant
Region VI is pleased to offer five awards of free registration and up to $50 to encourage students to propose and present sessions at conferences in Region VI.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must:
- Be a current student at a Region VI institution
- Not currently be a full-time employee at a Region VI institution
- Have submitted a proposal for a regional conference session in which he or she is a chair or primary presenter and have had that proposal accepted. (Students who are part of a session proposed by someone else do not qualify based on that participation.)
- Register for and attend the regional conference
In order to be considered for the grant, the individual must submit the grant application form indicating that he/she is a student meeting the specified criteria and naming the session accepted for the regional conference. In addition, the individual must register for and attend the conference.

Newcomers Annual Conference Travel Grant
Available to newcomers, professionals, and community volunteers in all areas of international education who wish to attend a NAFSA national conference. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to offset various conference fees.
To be eligible to apply, individuals must be:
- A first-time recipient of an annual conference travel grant
- A first-time attendee at an annual conference
- A U.S.-based paid professional staff, U.S.-based unpaid volunteer staff, or an undergraduate/graduate student at a U.S. postsecondary institution present at a NAFSA annual conference
Award preference will be given to applicants residing or working in Region VI.

Available to professionals and community volunteers in all areas of international education who wish to attend a NAFSA annual conference. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to offset conference expenses.
To be eligible, individuals must
- Be a member of NAFSA
- Be employed full- or part-time at a U.S.-based postsecondary institution or organization in Region VI
- Have more than five years of experience in advising students and/or administering programs in international education
Volunteers with community organizations providing services to international students are also eligible but must meet NAFSA membership and experience requirements as listed above.
