2019 Region X Conference

NAFSA Region X sincerely thanks all of the presenters, attendees, and conference organizers for an excellent 2019 Region X Conference at The Sagamore, Bolton Landing, New York! If you have not already done so, please complete the session and conference evaluations.

We look forward to seeing you next year for the Downstate NY/NJ Conference on June 17, 2020, the Upstate NY Conference on June 24, 2020 and the Bi-Regional Conference in Montreal from October 27 - 29, 2020. More details will be posted in Spring of 2020.

Hotel Reservations

Hotel accommodations can be made at The Sagamore. All reservations must be received by The Sagamore no later than September 27, 2019. 

A credit card is required to confirm each reservation. A non-refundable $35.00 processing fee will be charged at the time of booking. The balance of the stay will be charged to this card 14 days prior to the arrival date. Should the reservation be cancelled more than 14 days prior to arrival the $35.00 processing fee will be forfeited. If the cancellation is made 14 days or less from arrival, the total amount will be forfeited. In the event you do not arrive on the above arrival date your reservation will be cancelled and the amount collected will be forfeited at that time.

Please note, all individual reservations using a debit card during their stay will incur a per night pre-authorization “hold” on the credit card on file. Any incidental charges will be deducted from this amount and the authorization will be released within seven (7) days of departure.

The Sagamore can be reached by train or plane by travelling to Albany and then contacting the Sagamore on final transportation. For other transportation questions, please contact The Sagamore.

Workshops

NAFSA Region X is currently offering two workshops and Resume Review at the 2019 Region X Conference on Monday, October 28. Resume Review will take place Monday, October 28 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

• Addressing Mental Health Issues Affecting International Students (4 hour)
• F-1 Student Advising Intermediate (8 hour)

Regional Conference Grant

The application process for the Region X Conference grant has closed. Grantees will be notified shortly if they have been selected.

Movie Screening

On Monday, October 28 at the Region X Conference there will be a 5:45 pm Movie Screening by Fulbright awardee Lucia Florez "Mama". This is a private showing of a work in progress.

"Mamá" is a documentary film about the Fulbright grantee Lucía Florez, a queer Peruvian filmmaker, and her psychoanalyst mother. When presented with the opportunity to join her mother’s research trip about the new conceptions of motherhood in the Andean culture in Peru, Lucía decides to make a movie about the experience as an opportunity to explore their own mother-daughter relationship. Things start to get tense between Lucía and her mother when they start to explore the impact that the filmmaker´s sexual orientation had on both of them as they try to reach a mutual understanding and get some closure.

Online Conference Program
The online conference program is the best and most up-to-date way to browse sessions, events and plan the details of your conference experience. It will also sync with the free NAFSA 2019 Mobile Conference App, which you can download from your favorite app store.

How do I access it?

• Register for the conference and make note of your registration confirmation ID. You will need it and the email used to register in order to log-in to the online program.
• Once you download the NAFSA 2019 Mobile Conference App, click on "NAFSA Regional Conferences". Then select the "2019 NAFSA Region X Conference."
• Log in with the email used to register and your confirmation ID.
• Once logged in, you can access the "Schedule" and "My Plan".
• "Schedule" shows all of the events taking place during the NAFSA Region X Conference.
• "My Plan" shows any event you selected during the registration process and any other events that you add from the schedule.
