Hotel Booking Scams
NAFSA’s Annual Conference has been targeted by hotel booking scams. These typically involve calls or emails from people claiming to represent NAFSA or our vendors, encouraging you to make reservations using supposed promotional codes at hotels near the conference venue.
For hotel bookings, NAFSA has partnered with Orchid. Events for all Annual Conference housing needs. Orchid.Events is the only source for securing discounted lodging through NAFSA's official hotel block.
Please be advised that neither NAFSA nor the conference venue will contact you directly to arrange accommodation. Anyone claiming to do so is not authorized to represent our organization.
Attendee list scams
NAFSA has also been made aware of fraudulent emails in circulation that claim to offer attendee lists for the NAFSA Annual Conference and NAFSA Regional Conferences. These messages are sent by individuals falsely representing themselves as NAFSA representatives and should be considered fraudulent.
Select conference sponsors and exhibitors may have limited rights to communicate with attendees through email or written communication campaigns, but those campaigns are facilitated through NAFSA’s official marketing partner Infocus Marketing, and no attendee or member personal information is ever sold, shared, or distributed.
What to do if you’ve been contacted
If you are contacted about hotel booking accommodations or to purchase attendee data, please understand these are unauthorized solicitations and Contact Us to report the incident.
