The members of Region I and Region XII came together and were captivated by the aloha spirit throughout the week during their biregional conference in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to the wide array of professional development and networking opportunities and a record number of government agencies and EducationUSA advisers represented, the biregional provided opportunities for participants to embrace the Hawaiian culture. Whether you were into hula dancing, lei making, or surfing, there was something for everyone.
Jonathan Kay Kamakawiwo 'ole Osorio, the keynote speaker, gave attendees a real sense of the sociopolitical climate in the 1960s and 1970s in Hawaii using Hawaiian music to tell his story. Overall, the regions had a very successful biregional conference and look forward to seeing all of their colleagues who could not join us in Hawaii in Vancouver (Region I) and San Diego (Region XII) for the 2009 regional conferences.
