Top 10 tips for conference first-timers:

  1. Wear your first-timer ribbon with pride! Get it at the ribbon wall near registration on-site.
  2. Don’t be shy about starting conversations. Historically, about 40 percent of NAFSA attendees are first-timers at the conference. True to the spirit of international education, the atmosphere at NAFSA conferences is always warm and welcoming.
  3. Attend the preconference, a virtual conference orientation that will be in early May! Check back for more information about this in the coming months.
  4. Get social! Share your #NAFSA2023 experience on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  5. Create your conference schedule ahead of time by using the online planner and the NAFSA 2023 app.
  6. Want to follow up with a new connection? Use the NAFSA 2023 app to send messages to conference attendees.
  7. Bring your business cards! Make a note on the back of how you met the person or what you discussed so following up is a breeze.
  8. Attend at least one event or session outside your usual area of interest or expertise.
  9. Explore the online exhibitor listings and visit the International Education Expo to meet new institutional partners.
  10. Explore the Capital Studio to get to know new people through more casual networking opportunities, as well as explore the vibrant and incredible city that is Washington, D.C.!
