2021 Spring Immigration Workshop
2021 Virtual Spring Immigration Workshop
February 9-March 29, 2021
This year, due to public health concerns, Region XI will be hosting a virtual Spring Immigration Workshop. We also decided to spread the workshop offerings over eight weeks in February and March, instead of the traditional one-day format. This year's workshop will kick off with our SIW Opener on February 9.
Registration Information
This year you will register for each individual event, rather than the workshop as a whole. Registration is free for everyone.
Registration links will be sent via email every week to the Region XI listserv, as well as posted on this website. To join the Region XI Google Group listserv, please contact Sara Dart, Region XI Communications Representative. In the message box, simply indicate that you wish to be added to the listserv.
Workshop Program and Session Schedule
The virtual workshop will offer a variety of sessions focused on immigration advising. There will be two sessions each week. You can find the schedule below. Please note that we will update this page and post-session recordings (where available) at the end of each week. So, please bookmark this page and come back for updates each week.

Beating Back Atrophy: Things We Never Had to Do Before
We have all had to adjust to the Covidian times, but travel restrictions, border closures, lack of flights, suspension of visa services, and many other “unprecedented” disruptions have also created exceptional circumstances where we had to adjust our business practices and provide immigration advice to our students and scholars on processes we rarely (if ever) had to do before, such as change of status or change of J category, or even reinstatement, when we would have recommended travel in the past. In this session, we will discuss how different institutions are approaching advising challenges brought by an increasing need for processes that were rarely utilized in our previous advising toolkits.
