OSAC Study Abroad Safety and Security Seminars

The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) cohosts seminars on health, safety, and security issues relevant to higher education institutions and their students. On Friday, September 19, 2008, OSAC offers its next College and University Study Abroad Health, Safety, and Security Seminar at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

This free, one-day seminar will address critical study abroad health and safety issues. There is no cost to attend and a preworkshop networking reception will be held on Thursday evening, September 18. The event will be held at the International Culture Center building on the campus of Texas Tech University, and a block of guest rooms are available at the Radisson Hotel in Lubbock. The rate is $54 per night, plus tax. Reservations must be made by September 5. Please note this is a football weekend in Lubbock and there are no hotel rooms available on September 19. The seminar will end at 4:00 and transportation will be provided to the airport. Flights to Lubbock run through Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, or Albuquerque.

If you plan to attend this meeting, please RSVP to Aki Shimada at aki.shimada[at]ttu.edu or 806.742.2218 as soon as possible as space is limited. If you have any questions about this event, please contact OSAC's RISC Academic Outreach Coordinator, Elena Carrington, at CarringtonEA[at]state.gov or 571.345.2228.

Please note that this workshop is available only to OSAC constituents. There is no charge for becoming a constituent. Many U.S. universities and colleges are already constituents of OSAC. Check with the head of global security at your campus or organization to find out if you are already an OSAC constituent.

Every year, OSAC hosts two seminars on campuses in the United States, as well as one seminar abroad. The next seminar is slated to take place at the University of Washington in the spring of 2009. NAFSA will post the information once the event details are released.
