A groundbreaking ceremony took place recently in Sulaimaniya for the American University of Iraq. The institution is modeled after English-language universities such as the American University in Beirut and the American University in Cairo.

The Knowledge Community for Education Abroad has launched three new professional networks and one new special focus network.

"Trends V and the Bologna Process" Podcast |
| |
An interview with David Crosier, project director at the European University Association and lead researcher on the Trends project, which tracks Bologna Process developments, was conducted at NAFSA's annual conference in May by Dr. Laura Rumbley of the Boston College Center for International Higher Education (CIHE). CIHE has an extensive set of resources for international educators available on its Web site.

Senate Approves Increase in Funding for Exchanges |

The Senate last week passed an increase in funding for educational and cultural exchange programs for the 2008 fiscal year. The House and Senate must now work out the differences between their bills before going to the president for his signature.

The Department of State announced September 7, 2007 that passport service has been restored to the standard six-to-eight-week processing time for routine passport applications, and no more than three weeks for expedited service.
