NAFSA welcomes submissions to be published in many of its publications - from International Educator and NAFSA.news to books and other media.
International Educator
NAFSA publishes the bimonthly, four-color magazine International Educator. International Educator welcomes submissions of original essays and research on new and major issues and trends in the broad field of international education. Submissions and ideas for articles can be e-mailed (preferably as MS Word documents) or mailed on a disk with a cover letter to the NAFSA office c/o managing editor. Submissions should adhere to the editorial guidelines set forth in The Chicago Manual of Style (15th Edition). Articles submitted will generally be acknowledged within 30 days of receipt. Disks will not be returned unless accompanied by a SASE. It is suggested that potential authors contact the editorial staff of IE, prior to submission to discuss the proposed topic, length, and other parameters. Articles will be scheduled for publication at the publisher's discretion and will be edited to conform to the magazine's style and format. Feature length articles should be approximately 4,000 words. Columns and departments should be between 700 and 2,000 words.
Books, Brochures, Pamphlets, and Electronic Media
Each NAFSA Knowledge Community (KC) leadership team is responsible for deciding on information needs and priorities that it will pursue through publishing. The publishing work of the KCs is coordinated through the Subcommittee on Information Management (SIM), which works with NAFSA Publications to set priorities and assign resources to specific projects. All lead authors, or coauthors, of proposed books, pamphlets, brochures, etc., should submit a “Publications Proposal and Background Questionnaire.” Completed forms will be provided to the appropriate member of SIM who will shepherd the project through the KC approval process. If approved by the proper KC, the project will be submitted to SIM for a decision on whether to assign NAFSA resources to publish the recommended project. These decisions are based on a number of factors including the market potential of the proposed product, the importance to the field of the information, the cost of production, the needs of other high priority projects, etc.
NAFSA Publications produces two to three book-length titles per year.
