NAFSA Welcomes New Senior Staff in Member Communications, Professional Development
WASHINGTON – NAFSA: Association of International Educators is pleased to announce two recent additions to its senior management team. Christie Phillips has joined the organization as the deputy executive director for member communications and marketing. Ellen Barclay is NAFSA’s new deputy executive director for professional development services.
Ms. Phillips joined the NAFSA team as deputy executive director for member communications and marketing in August. The position was established to enhance the Association’s member communications strategies and to ensure consistent and coordinated messages for all NAFSA programs and services. She brings to NAFSA a wide range of experience in nonprofit communications, from the National 4-H Council to the American Red Cross Philadelphia Chapter and national office and, most recently, The Nature Conservancy.
Ms. Barclay came to NAFSA as the new deputy executive director for professional development services in November, succeeding Bob Stableski, who will transition to new responsibilities within the organization. Under her leadership, NAFSA’s professional development services division will include an expanded role in distance learning and continuous quality improvement of all training programs. She brings a rich experience in management and international education, having served as deputy executive director at the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), director of conference services and procurement at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and, most recently, president of the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers.
Mr. Stableski, formerly deputy executive director for professional development services, will assume the newly created position of senior advisor for planning and service development and will be responsible for the Association’s efforts to identify new program opportunities, focusing particularly in the areas of internationalization, professional standards and best practices, and executive leadership. He will also continue to staff the organization’s strategic planning process.
“I am delighted to welcome these energetic and experienced new leaders to NAFSA,” said CEO and Executive Director Marlene Johnson, “Ellen and Christie are already making important contributions to our work, and I believe that this realignment of our staffing structure will make it possible for NAFSA to provide even better, more effective service and communication to its members moving forward. I am also pleased that we have an opportunity to channel the energy and talents of our long-time colleague Bob Stableski toward critical areas of planning and strategy for the Association.”
