2023-2024 RISE Fellow

My name is Yang Zhang. I am the Assistant Director of International Admissions at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania. The focus of my job is to provide information about my institution and help students make informed decisions to choose the college that would be the best fit for them. I truly enjoy helping individuals from different backgrounds and believe that sharing my personal experience as an international student in America can be beneficial to others. I was born and raised in Beijing, China before moving to the United States in 2012 where I worked as a Mandarin teacher in Washington D.C. for 4 years. I earned a BA in Language & Linguistic Studies from Beijing Language and Cultural University, and an M.Ed. in School Counseling from Millersville University. Before joining the International Admissions Team in 2017, I worked in the Banking and Finance sector for over 8 years in Beijing, and Hong Kong. Additionally, I have served clients from National Geographic to General Motors for translation and interpretation services and was hired as a fixer/coordinator on an Olympic photography book, and a documentary on Rock n’ Roll. I believe my unique background will help me build special connections with international students, supporting them in their goals while growing their experience in the global community. In my free time, I enjoy reading, traveling, watching cooking shows, and spending time with my dog named Birdy.
