Collegial Conversations: Biographies of Contributors

CC Linda GentileLinda Gentile
Linda Gentile is the interim director of the Office of International Education (OIE) at Carnegie Mellon University. OIE works with an international student/scholar population of over 3,000 people each year. Linda has been an adviser in this field for more than 20 years, starting shortly after grade school. She is an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and has served in several member-leader positions including vice-chair for International Student and Scholar Services, Policy & Practice Committee, and chair of NAFSA Region VIII. Linda obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Grinnell College and her Master of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh.

Suzanne B. Seltzer
Suzanne B. Seltzer is a partner of Klasko, Rulon, Stock & Seltzer LLP, and the partner in charge of the New York office. Suzanne chairs AILA's Vermont Service Center (VSC) Liaison Committee, is a member of AILA's Service Center Operations Liaison Committee, has been on AILA's Annual Conference Planning Committee since 2006, sits on the Steering Committee of the NY Anti-Trafficking Network, and is a NAFSA Regulatory Ombudsman (scholar issues) for Region X. Suzanne is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (B.A., magna cum laude, 1989) and Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., cum laude, 1993), where she was a staff editor for the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal.


CC Steve SpringerSteve Springer
Steve Springer is an immigration attorney with David Ware and Associates. He has been licensed to practice law for more than 20 years and represents clients in immigration matters throughout the United States. After working for several years as a litigator, he earned a graduate degree in cultural studies, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Poland, for nearly a decade managed immigration services for several major research universities, and managed his own immigration law practice.

Steve has held a variety of NAFSA leadership positions, most recently serving as manager of the Scholar Advising Network and dean of the "Pathways to Permanent Residence" workshop, and regularly serves as a presenter at national, regional, and state conferences. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and frequently presents sessions at its meetings and at meetings of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the College and University Personnel Association.

Tina Tan
Tina Tan began working with international students in 1989, first at the Intenational English Program at the University of Colorado-Boulder for eight years and then in the Office of International Education since 1997 at CU Boulder. She became the director of International Students and Scholar Services in 2004. Tina has a Master's in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor's in Asian Studies. Tina was CIPPRR for Region II 2001-2003; chair of KCISSS Regulatory Practice Subcommittee, 2006-2007; chair of the New Regulations Task Force 2008, and she has presented at various NAFSA sessions/workshops.
