Breaking Barriers: Why and How Nontraditional Students Study Abroad

How do we best serve the study abroad nontraditional student? Students of color, ethnic minorities, and older returning students represent a unique group requiring special support. Hear from nontraditional students and their experiences studying abroad. Learn about the successful models to encourage these students and practical strategies to open the possibility of participation in longer programs.

How Does it Work?

  1. Register online and then invite colleagues to join you on the day of the event. With one computer, a projection screen, and a speaker phone, your attendance is only limited by the number of available chairs!
  2. After registering, please read about the necessary technology requirements.
  3. Two to three days before the live webinar, you will receive instructions on how to view the webinar online and join in an audio teleconference. At this same time, you will receive all related handouts.
  4. On the day of the event you, and the others you invited, log on to a single computer for video, call the provided phone number for audio, and start learning. You'll be able to ask questions and participate in polls throughout each webinar.


What Does it Cost?

The cost to participate is $140 per webinar for NAFSA members and $185 for nonmembers.

Please remember to encourage others to view the session at no additional cost. Therefore, if you and nine others attend the webinar, the cost could be as low as $14 each. Webinars are an efficient way to stay up-to-date on important issues that benefit you and your organization.


What is the Cancellation/Refund Policy?

Cancellation of webinar registrations and requests for refunds must be made in writing or by e-mail—received no later than 24 hours before the start of the webinar. A $35 for members/$ 55 for nonmembers (USD) cancellation fee will be deducted from the webinar registration refund checks or credits. Refunds, if appropriate, will be processed four to six weeks after the date of the webinar. If payment is made by credit card, a credit will be issued to your credit card account; otherwise, a refund check will be issued. The NAFSA registration staff will do their utmost to process refunds in a timely manner.
