Current Academy Update

Academy Trainees at Spring Training Time flies when you are working hard toward your own personal learning goals and working full time. The current 60 Academy trainees are nearing the culmination of their Academy experience at the NAFSA regional conferences.

Here's an update of their progress so far:

Academy Spring Training

Atlanta, Georgia, March 2007
Academy participants from nine regions met for the first time in Spring Training to begin the Academy program. They would come to see each other as colleagues and contacts to help provide a professional support network.

Academy Trainees at Spring Training Armed with their Individual Learning Plans trainees tackled the 4 intensive workshops dealing with four key areas of international education. After networking and meeting one-on-one with their coaches they left with new contacts, new ideas, and new determination to transfer their new knowledge to their jobs.

NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo

Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 27 - June 1, 2007
Academy Trainees at Spring Training Academy trainees were prepared to make the most of the conference experience after receiving guidance and strategies from their coaches. Academy Trainees attended workshops that matched their own personal needs and learning goals and found that sessions were easier to select with a clear learning plan in mind.

Suddenly I realized that my challenges were not unique to me... I do not feel as overwhelmed as I did when I applied to the Academy. The group was reunited mid-week to take part in group sharing and demonstrations of their professional growth over the past three months. They followed their experience with the task of writing a reflection paper to assess their personal progress with the Academy.
