Muhammad Yunus


The visionary founder of the Grameen Bank, Professor Muhammad Yunus leads a global network aimed at ending poverty around the world. Recognized alongside the bank for these efforts with the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, his ideas couple capitalism with social responsibility and have changed the face of rural economic and social development forever. An accomplished writer, Professor Yunus is the author of Banker to the Poor: Micro-Lending and the Battle Against World Poverty and Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism.

Exploring Global Talent Flows - Moderated by Ray Suarez


A dynamic expert panel moderated by Ray Suarez, senior correspondent with The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, will examine the implications of "brain drain" and "brain gain" and analyze the political economy of the global exchange of skilled, highly educated workers, with both historical analysis and consideration of impacts on international development. Prominent academics, international activists, and thought leaders will offer their insights on how identified problems can be addressed, how positive impacts can be expanded upon, and how international educators are affected as they work on the frontlines of the international flow of talent and ideas.

Gillian Sorensen


Gillian Sorensen is senior adviser and national advocate for the United Nations Foundation, focusing on strengthening relations between the UN and the United States. Prior to joining the UN Foundation, Sorensen served as assistant secretary-general for external relations under Kofi Annan from 1997-2003. She also served as a special adviser to former Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali and as New York City Commissioner for the United Nations and Consular Corps. Sorensen travels widely educating Americans about the work of the United Nations and fostering public-private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems.

Luis Alberto Moreno


Luis Alberto Moreno is president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), where he has served since 2005. Before joining the IDB, Moreno served as Colombia's ambassador to the United States for seven years. Moreno has had a distinguished private and public sector career in international finance, as well as remarkable achievements in journalism. For his work in economic development, Moreno received Colombia's highest honor—the Orden de Boyacá en el Grado de Gran Cruz—in 2002.
