2008 National Election

The 2008 Nominations Committee is pleased to present an outstanding slate of candidates for the 2008 election. The Nominations Committee was charged with finding the most qualified individuals who represent the diversity of the field, meet the long-range leadership needs of NAFSA, and are best able to pursue the vision the NAFSA Board of Directors has set for the association.

With the recent changes in the bylaws, this is the first time NAFSA members have the opportunity to vote for external board members since they were added to the board in 2002. Previously, these individuals were appointed by the president, and in 2005, with another bylaws change, they were elected by the members of the board. The slate presented this year meets the goal of the Board to bring highly qualified, diverse, and strategic individuals to the board.

How To Vote

The election will be held by electronic ballot from September 30 (12:00 noon EDT) through October 27, 2008 (11:59 p.m. EDT) via the NAFSA Web site.

2009 National Election Process

Based on board decisions in September, the Leadership Development Committee (LDC) will issue the call for all nominations, both for board members and member-leader positions (knowledge community positions and chairs of Membership and Leadership Development Committee). The Governance Committee of the board will decide the slate of the board members and officers, while LDC will develop and present the slate of the member-leader nominees. The LDC will consult with the relevant vice-president and committee/KC chair to establish the criteria for nominating the next committee/KC chair and to discuss candidates under serious consideration. The vice-president of member relations will present the slate for the next chairs of committees/KCs to the board.
