Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in International Education Award 

Established by the Region V team in 2020, this award recognizes an international education professional in the region whose work fosters inclusive practices, promotes diversity, or advances equitable systems at their institution or beyond. $250 to support professional development.

Patti Jones Award for Outstanding Leadership in Region V

The Patti Jones Award for Outstanding Leadership is named in honor of Patti Jones (Western Illinois University), who has provided many years of service to Region V and the Region V team. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding leadership, contributions, and dedication to Region V, the regional leadership team, and to the internationalization of American higher education. $250 to support professional development.

To be eligible, the recipient must:

  • Be a member of NAFSA
  • Have provided outstanding contributions to the health, growth, and well-being of Region V
  • Have a deep commitment and dedication to the region and its members
  • Have provided mentoring and support to individuals within Region V; and
  • Be an individual whose service to the region has resulted in increased professionalism and enhanced services to international and U.S. students

Region V New Professional Award

Established by the Region V team in 2014, the New Professional Award recognizes an individual in the region who is new to the field of international education, and who has made an outstanding contribution to international education through their enthusiasm, potential for leadership, and actual accomplishments at their institution or community and Region V. To be eligible, the individual may have no more than three years of experience in the field.  The recipient of the award will also be submitted as the "Rising Star Young Leader Award" nomination by the region, which is granted through the NAFSA Annual Conference. $250 to support professional development.

Marilyn Boyd Foreign Born International Educator (FBIE) Award

Region V is pleased to announce it has designated a $400 award for an FBIE (Foreign Born International Educator) to recognize the contributions the person has made to the field of international education and to encourage FBIE participation in the Region V Conference. The award may be used to cover travel, meals, and/or accommodation. Preference will be given to first-time attendees and international students wishing to enter the field of international education. For more information, please see the application form below. $400 to support professional development.

2022 NAFSA Region V Conference Travel Grant Application

Region V will offer grants for 2022 NAFSA Region V Conference Travel ($99-$200), depending on your membership category.  Attendees must register themselves before the early-bird discount ends.  Awardees will be notified by late September. NAFSA Region V 2023 Advocacy Day Grants

NAFSA Region V is proud to announce that it will offer multiple grants for participants to attend Advocacy Day. This award is in the form of a reimbursement/registration fee waiver and will be given to cover these individuals’ travel expenses. The amount of the grant is intended to cover the primary expenses incurred by participating in Advocacy Day 2023. NAFSA Advocacy Day 2023 will be held in Washington, DC, dates TBD.
