Rising Star Young Leader Award Recipients


The Rising Star Young Leader Award is given annually in recognition of a professional who has impacted the field of international education during the first five years of the recipient's area of work. The rising star will have demonstrated a commitment to internationalization and an ingenuity of thought that has the potential for having substantial and lasting influence upon global education.

2018 Award Recipient

Carolyn Becker is the education abroad specialist at Texas Woman’s University. In this role, she works directly with a unique and diverse student population to provide support related to education abroad opportunities. In addition, she serves as the president-elect of her institution’s Staff Council. Becker is actively involved with NAFSA and The Forum on Education Abroad through conference committee work and presentations. She is also a reviewer for multiple national scholarships including the Fund for Education Abroad and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Additionally, she is a member of the Academic Programs International Advisory Board and previously served on the Diversity Abroad Minority-Serving Institutions Task Force. Her educational background includes a BA in history from Winona State University and a master of science in education in college development and administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She is currently pursuing The Forum’s Professional Certification in Education Abroad.
