Committee: Education Abroad Regulatory Practice (EA RP) Committee
Position: Member-at-Large and Financial Aid Subcommittee Chair
Term Dates: Two-year term, renewable for one term (maximum of 4 years)
The EA RP Financial Aid Subcommittee is charged with identifying government-related practices and procedures for financial aid that affect U.S. students who study abroad. This position leads the subcommittee and is appointed by the chair of the EA RP Financial Aid Subcommittee.

Major Functions and Responsibilities
Within the framework of NAFSA’s Strategic Plan, this position will:
- Lead the Federal Financial Aid Subcommittee calls by providing an agenda and working collaboratively with the volunteers to accomplish the workplan goals assigned to the EARP related to financial aid or veterans benefits.
- Identify and monitor federal financial aid policies that affect the field of education abroad
- Curate content for NAFSA web pages on funding and financial aid for education abroad ensure information is relevant and current.
- Encourage and facilitate the inclusion of sessions, posters, or workshops on financial aid and funding for education abroad at regional and annual conferences. Develop and present sessions as appropriate when possible and appropriate.
- Participate actively in the EAKC Network by prompting or responding to discussions on financial aid for education abroad. Act as a resource for colleagues with questions and concerns throughout the year.
- Collaborate with the subcommittee chair and NAFSA staff partner to achieve these goals.

In recent years, the subcommittee chairs has contributed to projects such as:
- Annual and regional conference presentations and dialogues on financial aid for education abroad
- Online information sessions on financial aid for education abroad
- Advocacy with the US Department of Education and Veterans Affairs to clarify policies and procedures on financial aid, in coordination with NAFSA staff partner
- A resource on Funding Models for Education Abroad Operations
- Updates to the web pages on Financial Aid for Education Abroad
Commitment
- Prepare for and attend EARP meetings throughout the year. Most meetings are virtual.
- Prepare for and lead subcommittee meetings throughout the year. Most meetings are virtual.
- Assure NAFSA membership through the length of the leadership term
- Serve a two-year term, renewable once for a maximum of four years.

Qualifications
- Knowledge of financial aid regulations affecting students from U.S. institutions of higher education who are studying abroad
- Ability to communicate with colleagues and government officials in a collegial and diplomatic fashion
- Demonstrated expertise in education abroad and an understanding of the needs of the field in practice areas related to US student visa procedures
- Willingness to adopt organization-wide perspectives.
